ASN Bank publishes updated Green Funding Framework 2025

Summary

ASN Bank has published its Green Funding Framework (the Framework), an update from its Green Bond Framework published in 2023. The Framework allows for the issuance of multiple types of green instruments: green senior, covered and subordinated bonds, green commercial paper and green deposits, together forming the Green Funding Instruments (GFIs).

The Framework received a positive Second Party Opinion (SPO) from ISS-Corporate. The SPO confirms that the Framework is fully aligned with the recently updated ICMA Green Bond Principles 2025 and the key eligible categories are fully aligned with the EU Taxonomy. Deutsche Bank supported ASN Bank on the Green Funding Framework as Sole ESG Structuring Coordinator.

Since the publication of the first Framework in 2019, ASN Bank (formerly ‘de Volksbank’) has taken important steps to enhance its green finance strategy and sees it as a major tool towards a more sustainable balance sheet and to generate positive impact. With the update, ASN Bank intends to expand the type of labelled funding instruments that can be issued under this Framework, as well as to ensure the Framework is up to date and reflects the most relevant sustainable finance trends.

ASN Bank sees the issuance of GFIs as an effective way to mitigate climate change and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDGs). Via the green funding program, ASN Bank aims to further diversify its investor base by making sustainable investments available in the debt market to both dedicated green bond investors as well as to mainstream investors who may be looking to integrate ESG factors in their investment decisions.

The Framework is available on the corporate website of ASN Bank.
